    In 1996, the Historic Symes Hot Springs Hotel & Mineral baths, built in 1928, was purchased by Dan & Leslee Smith.  In 1997 they built a 11,000 gallon two tiered hot mineral pool and opened the 22,000 sq. ft. mission styled hotel, to the town and the Hot Springs artist Society for public musical events. Through the collaboration of the Hot Springs Artist Society and the new owners of the Symes Hotel, a renaissance is occurring in Hot Springs.  They have sponsored many events including musicians, artist workshops, a historic photo restoration project with the town library, funding the Missoula Children's Theater performance for the school and working with the towns of Plains and Thompson Falls to bring the String Orchestra of the Rockies,  The symes Hotel and Hot Springs Artist Society, through cultural tourism , is elevating the economy of  the town.
